Sediment

Solid material that settles in a bottle or glass.

<h2>What it means in wine</h2> <p>Sediment can come from pigments, tannins, tartrates, lees, or unfiltered bottling. It is common in older reds and some minimally processed wines.</p> <h2>Why it matters</h2> <p>Sediment is not automatically a fault, but it can feel gritty and may be separated by careful pouring or decanting.</p>
