Privacy Policy
Effective June 2026
Encyclopedia of Wine is a reference site. It does not run an account system, accept comments, sell anything, or send marketing email. This policy explains the limited ways your information is handled when you visit the site.
Information we collect
We do not ask for or store any personally identifying information. We do not run analytics platforms (no Google Analytics, no third-party tracking pixels) and we do not set first-party tracking cookies. We do not build profiles of visitors and we do not sell or share visitor data.
The web server that delivers this site keeps standard access logs — the kind any web server creates by default. These logs record the IP address of each request, the URL requested, the date and time, the HTTP referer if one was sent, and the browser user-agent string. Logs are retained for a short, rolling period for operational and security purposes (for example, detecting and blocking abusive crawlers) and are then deleted.
Cookies
This site does not set any first-party cookies. Browsing the site, searching the encyclopedia, and opening reference entries do not place cookies on your device.
Third-party services
The site loads two web font families — Sorts Mill Goudy and Source Sans 3 — from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser loads a page, it requests these font files from Google. Google’s logs will see the request, including your IP address, in the same way any web server sees a request for a file. Google’s own privacy practices for Google Fonts are described at developers.google.com/fonts/faq/privacy. Google states that the Google Fonts API logs CSS and font file requests for performance and reliability purposes, that font requests are separated from any Google account, and that requests for font files do not set cookies.
The site does not embed analytics scripts, social media widgets, advertising tags, or comment platforms.
Search
The search box on the homepage routes to the glossary index. Your search term travels in the URL of the resulting page, exactly as it would for any web search. No record of individual searches is kept beyond the standard server log entries described above.
Cross-links to related sites
Some reference entries link to companion sites — most commonly WineTutorial for practical guidance and WineGrabber for label registry lookups. Those sites have their own privacy policies and run independently from Encyclopedia of Wine.
Children
This site is a reference for adult wine knowledge and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Your rights
Because the site does not maintain accounts or store personal data beyond short-lived server logs, there is no personal profile to access, correct, export, or delete. If you are a resident of a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (for example, the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU General Data Protection Regulation) and you believe you have a request that applies here, please contact us at the address below and we will respond.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a material way — for example, if we ever add analytics or a different third-party service — the effective date at the top of this page will be updated and the change will be summarized at the bottom.
