The Finger Lakes AVA, established in 1982 under 27 CFR Part 9, encompasses the elongated glacially-carved lakes of central New York State. The lakes moderate air temperatures and extend the growing season on steep shoreline slopes. Riesling is the most commercially prominent variety in the TTB COLA registry from this appellation, alongside other cool-climate white varieties and Cabernet Franc.
