Calderara Sottana
Calderara Sottana is one of the most visible contrade on Etna labels. The name points to a specific volcanic place rather than a separate DOC, with wines commonly built around Nerello Mascalese for reds and Carricante for whites. It is especially useful for explaining how lava flows, elevation, exposure, and old vines can shape Etna's site vocabulary.
