Avize is a Côte des Blancs Grand Cru village and one of Champagne's clearest shorthand names for Chardonnay. Wines and base wines associated with Avize often show lemon, green apple, white flowers, chalk, and a firm mineral line that can develop brioche and cream with time on lees. The village matters for drinkers because it helps explain why blanc de blancs Champagne can feel precise and architectural rather than merely light.
